"How can we all think we are being lead by THE spirit of God, yet we are all going in different directions and disagreeing with each other?
If you were raised under the Budist teachings, would you be Budist? What if your were raised under a Muslim teaching? Do you think you would be a Muslim? You can apply this question to any religious teaching. Let us put ourselves in the Muslim's shoes. What do we now believe? Where did this belief come from and what have we been taught? Are we being lead by the religion or an organization that we were born into? I think for many of us the answer will be, yes. Consider for a minute the millions or billions of people that are zealous and sincere for the cause they were raised up under.
I know a story about a man that was working his way to the top of his religion and doing every thing in his power to do what he thought would please God. The problem was, this man only thought he was being led by God, but, all the while he was one of God's worst enemies. You might know this story. This man's name was Saul before he became the apostle Paul. You can find the story in the Bible, in Acts 9.
How can a man that was so sincere in his service to God be so terribly wrong?
Could it be because he was born in to a religious system and was taught that way as a little boy? What about you or I? Is there any chance at all that we ourselves are serving God to the best that we know how, but, in ignorance we are in reality fighting against him? Could we just be following the religion that we were taught as a child just like the apostle Paul was?
It is bad enough not to be a part of God's divine way, but it is even worse to be ignorantly fighting against even God himself.
The odds are, that out of over 6 billion people, we are just following some man-made religion.
It is so important to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we are being lead by God himself and nothing else.
Listen to what Saul said to Jesus when he was shown that he was going about this thing all wrong. He said, "Lord what would You have me to do?"
What a humble way to admit that he had been wrong. What a willingness to do whatever it takes to please the One that made you and I. No one wants to be wrong, but we need to ask ourselves what would we do if we suddenly learned that all of this time we have been fighting the Creator and are being led the wrong way. Every day of our lives we need to be asking the same question that Saul asked, "Lord what would you have me to do?"
Then, when light comes and uncovers some ignorance in us, we need to humbly take action without delay to follow that very thing that God has shown to us.
During our lifetime, each one of us will stumble over the truth at least one time or another. But, unfortunately most will get up and brush themselves off and walk on like nothing ever happened to them. Will that be you?
To be lead by God means to diligently be following Him.
If He shows us that we are on the wrong path, we need to get on the right path and stay on that path every single day of our lives. God only has one way. All other paths and ways lead contrary to Gods way.
